Sirak Keegan, Uni High's Comedian
Last Friday, I had the immense pleasure of watching Uni High's very own Sirak Keegan perform in the Grand Final of Class Clowns, the Melbourne International Comedy festivals competition for High school comedians across Australia.
Class Clowns is a wonderful opportunity by the festival for young comedians to get noticed by industry professionals and encourages young people to develop individual creative expression via comedy writing and performance making.
Performing on the Melbourne town hall stage in front of a packed audience Sirak gave it his all. This boy is one of the few people you meet in your lifetime with the ability to draw in everyone around him. The moment he stepped onto the stage the audience were prey to his quick-witted jokes and infectious smile. Siraks’ presence on stage way completely unmatched, and his ability to make everyone feel comfortable was immediate. His jokes were applicable to people from all walks of life, and that’s something that made his act all that much more enjoyable. Sirak presents comedy from an honest and relatable place, making fun of the audience and getting them involved makes him the type of comedian that people will go back to see simply because of how comfortable he was able to make his crowd.
I was lucky to see a few of the Melbourne International Comedy festival acts and I can say with complete faith that one day we will all be able to buy tickets to Siraks very own show. At the end of the day, Sirak didn’t win that competition but he absolutely won the hearts of the crowd, with people sitting around me asking if I knew him why I yelled his name across the auditorium. I was proud to say I did and they made sure I passed on messages about how wonderful he was. This is not the last we will see of this young comedian, who has made himself noticed to some of Australia’s top comedians, including Aunty Donna, a highly successful sketch group which performed as a guest act during the show.
